LATE Call for Papers, Leeds 2013: "The Medieval Hostage"

The use and experience of hostages in the medieval world has recently emerged as a research interest. This call for papers seeks submissions from researchers working in any area of medieval hostages but particularly in the realm of the hostageship experience, gendered hostageships, or exploring aspects of hostages and hostageships that exist outside of the realm of legal history. The sessions of this strand seek to delve into the broader social or socio-political role of the hostage whilst placing these experiences on a larger platform for study and discussion. Accepted paper(s) will join established scholars from the US and UK.

The Leeds International Medieval Congress will be held 1-4 July 2013. Accepted speakers for this hostageship strand are expected to acquire funding from their own departments or other resources. Proposals should be no more than 200 words, include a clear title and outline of research, and should be sent to the session organizer as soon as possible. All proposals and queries can be sent to Katherine Weikert at katherine.weikert@winchester.ac.uk.
