Position Title: Acquisitions Librarian
Report to: Administrative Librarian for Technical Services
Summary description of position:
Selects, acquires and processes all library resources for the general
collection to maintain the Library's status as the premier collection
in the Western hemisphere.
Specific duties and responsibilities:
Responsible for collection development, selection, acquisition
processing of all library resources for the general collection. This
includes monographs, multi-media, microform, e-resources and music.
Responsible for managing multiple acquisitions budgets. Participates
in special acquisitions projects. Supervision of para-professional
staff. Works collaboratively with technical services staff, special
collections staff and public services staff to build the Library's
collection.
Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to select materials for premier academic library
of Jewish studies. Proficiency in Hebrew and Jewish Studies. Knowledge
of other European languages are desired as is experience with ExLibris
ALEPH500 system. Ability to work with multiple vendors and maintain
multiple budgets. Supervisory experience, ability to work in a team
environment. Excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate
orally and in writing. Keeps abreast of latest trends in acquisitions
through professional affiliations.
Educational Requirements:
ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS is required; second advanced degree in related
subject area desired. Excellent Hebrew. Other European languages are
desired.
