Georgia College & State University is seeking a knowledgeable, energetic
librarian to coordinate the receipt, processing and management activities
for serials in all formats in Technical Services.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties will include coordination of order/pay/receipt
processing, allocation reconciliation, cataloging/renewal of serials,
claiming activities, resolving complex problems encountered by staff, staff
training, report preparation, vendor interaction/assessment, and special
projects. Serves as the library contact for electronic databases. The
position is highly collaborative and interacts with other departments to
ensure public access and record maintenance; resolves access-related issues
for electronic journals; provides limited reference desk service; acts as
liaison to one or more departments on campus; and serves on library and
university committees. Provides access to online information resources and
participates in consortia purchases with other University System of Georgia
institutions. The serials librarian supervises one staff member.
QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited or Georgia Board of Regents approved
MLS/MLIS. Expertise in serials cataloging utilizing AACR2r, LC
classification and subject headings, MARC formats, OCLC, and integrated
library systems. Familiarity with library metadata and standards.
Experience creating web pages and familiarity with aggregators, database
vendors, and publishers of electronic journals. Working knowledge of
database management and spreadsheet software. Attention to detail and
accuracy. Flexibility in adapting to change. Ability to work independently
as well as within a team environment, take initiative, and follow through
effectively and efficiently with all issues and tasks. Minimum of one year
of professional academic experience in an automated environment. Excellent
analytical and organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively.

the University's promotion and tenure requirements. Preferred: Experience
with Voyager.
RANK AND SALARY: 12-month, tenure-track appointment. Salary and faculty
rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. Competitive benefits

ABOUT THE LIBRARY: Georgia College & State University is the state's
designated Public Liberal Arts University, located in historic
Milledgeville. The campus consists of 5,800 students. The Library and
Instructional Technology Center is one of the largest libraries in Georgia,
with space for 450,000 volumes. The library includes 39 group study rooms,
two electronic classrooms, three computer labs, a graphics lab, and an
Internet café. Primary access to the library catalog, periodical indexes,
and full-text periodical databases is provided via GALILEO, Georgia's
state-wide library consortium. The library also houses the internationally
recognized Flannery O'Connor Collection, the papers of Georgia's late
United States Senator, Paul D. Coverdell, and the university's museum.
