The conference will be held at Queen's University Belfast, 18-20 May 2007. It is preceded by the 2007 Wiles Lectures on 15–18 May, when Professor Christopher Bayly will speak on ‘Empire and liberalism: India and beyond’. Our aim is to build upon the Wiles themes and to explore the complexities, controversies, and contradictions of empires and history more broadly.
